The F-15 is one of the first planes to be designed to achieve air superiority and manueverability. F-15s went into combat for the first time for the Israeli army in 1978 in Lebanon. In Operation Desert Storm 38 enemy aircraft were shot down by the F-15C. The F15 is one of the best planes the world has ever seen especially when it comes to combat records. Saddam’s air-force refused to go airborne during Operation Iraqi Freedom due to the fear of the F-15C Eagle.
The capabilities of the current fighters in the United States, and other nations arsenal’s surpass that of the F-15C, but jets such as the F-22 Raptor, F-35 Lightning II, Super Flanker, and Eurofighter do not have the proven combat record of the F-15.
